Plug your AI into your money.
Let the AI assistant you already use — or any MCP app — read your Tally budget. Read-only, and only what you choose.
Part of Tally Pro. In the app: Profile → Security & Privacy → Connected AI.
Three steps. One plug.
You start in your assistant and finish in the Tally app. Nothing is connected until you approve it on your iPhone and type the number Tally shows you.
-
01
Give your assistant Tally's address
Add it as a custom connector in your assistant. This is the address to paste:
https://api.tallybudget.link/mcp -
02
Approve it in Tally
Your assistant opens a Tally page with an 8-letter code. In the app, go to Profile → Security & Privacy → Connected AI → Enter a code, or scan that page's QR code with your iPhone. You see who is asking, choose what it may read, and approve with Face ID.
-
03
Type the number
Tally shows a 3-digit number. Type it on that Tally page and you're plugged in. Type a wrong number twice and the request is refused — nothing is connected.
- Claude
- Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector. Paste the address, then choose Connect.
- ChatGPT
- On the web: Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode → Create app. Paste the address.
- Any other MCP app
- Tools that can send a header — Claude Code included — plug in with an API key instead. See For builders.
The code works for 10 minutes. Each time an assistant is connected, Tally also sends you an email and a notification.
It reads what you allow. Nothing else.
When you approve a connection, you choose from three things. One assistant can have your totals and another everything — each connection keeps its own choice.
A demonstration you can flip. In the app you set these before Face ID, for each assistant and each API key.
- 01
It never moves money.
All it can do is read. It can't pay, transfer, or change a single thing in Tally.
- 02
It never sees your bank login.
Your bank login is never typed into Tally, so there is none to hand over.
- 03
It never sees what your family or group shares.
It reads your own transactions, budgets and accounts — never what someone shares with you in Family & Groups.
- 04
You can unplug it any time.
Disconnect it in Connected AI whenever you like. Signing out on all devices, or changing your password, ends it too.
a promise about what an assistant does with what it reads — that is up to the assistant and its own terms. Connect ones you trust, and leave Transactions off when totals are enough.
Ask it anything about your budget.
Your assistant asks Tally for the numbers — only the kinds you allowed — and answers in its own words. A few things people ask:
How much did I spend on dining last month?
ReadsSpending totals and budgetsWhich subscriptions went up this year?
ReadsTransactionsAm I on track with my groceries budget?
ReadsSpending totals and budgetsFind every taxi ride over $30 since March.
ReadsTransactionsWhat's my net worth, and where does most of it sit?
ReadsAccount balances and net worthAm I spending faster than at this point last month?
ReadsSpending totals and budgets
Example questions. The answers come from your assistant, worked out from the numbers Tally gives it.
Your own tools, on a key.
Scripts, Shortcuts, a spreadsheet, any MCP client: anything that can send a header can read your Tally with an API key. The same three choices, the same read-only rules.
In the app, once
Go to Profile → Security & Privacy → Connected AI → API keys. Name the key, choose what it may read, and confirm with Face ID. Tally shows the key once — copy it then.
Send it as a bearer token
Answers are JSON. Ask for a month with ?month=2026-08, or leave it out for this month.
The same key, as a connector
The key also works on Tally's MCP address, with the same choices, so any MCP client that can send a header can use it. In Claude Code:
curl https://api.tallybudget.link/v1/summary \
-H "Authorization: Bearer tly_sk_…"
{
"month": "2026-09",
"currency": "USD",
"spent": 1936.4,
"spending_transactions": 86,
"by_category": [ … ],
"previous_month": { … }
}
claude mcp add --transport http tally \
https://api.tallybudget.link/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer tly_sk_…"
| Endpoint | Reads | What comes back |
|---|---|---|
GET /v1/summary | Spending totals and budgets | A month's spending by category, with the month before beside it.?month=2026-08 · ?compare=true |
GET /v1/budgets | Spending totals and budgets | Each budget for the month, and how it's doing.?month=2026-08 |
GET /v1/transactions | Transactions | Up to 12 months back, up to 100 at a time with a cursor. Filter by date, category, text, direction or amount.?from · to · category · search · direction · min_amount · max_amount · limit · cursor |
GET /v1/accounts | Account balances and net worth | Every account's balance, and your net worth. |
Every parameter and answer, described in OpenAPI 3.1: https://api.tallybudget.link/v1/openapi.json
- Limits
- 60 requests a minute and 2,000 a day for each key. Past that:
429withRetry-After. - Lifetime
- A key lasts a year. It ends sooner if you delete it, sign out on all devices or change your password. Up to 5 keys at a time.
- Where from
- Servers, scripts and Shortcuts. There is no CORS, so a web page can't call it from a browser.
- Errors
- JSON with a code to act on:
invalid_key,expired_key,insufficient_scope,invalid_params,rate_limited,paused,not_found.
Before you plug in.
What does it cost?
Tally for AI is part of Tally Pro, which starts with a 7-day free trial. What your assistant costs, if anything, is between you and it.
Which assistants can I connect?
Claude and ChatGPT connect the way this page shows: an address, a code, Face ID and a number. Anything else that supports MCP — the Model Context Protocol, an open way for assistants to plug into apps — connects with an API key it sends as a header. Claude Code works that way, and so do your own scripts.
Can it change anything in my Tally?
No. It is read-only: it can read what you allowed and nothing else. It can't add, edit or delete anything, and it never moves money.
Does it see my family's or my group's data?
No. It reads only your own transactions, budgets and accounts — never anything a family or group member shares with you in Tally.
How do I disconnect?
In the app, go to Profile → Security & Privacy → Connected AI and disconnect the assistant or delete the key — or everything at once. Signing out on all devices, or changing your password, ends every connection and key too. An assistant left unused for 30 days is disconnected on its own, and nothing lasts longer than a year.
What does the assistant do with what it reads?
That is up to the assistant. What it keeps, and for how long, is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, not Tally's; Tally decides only what it can read. An assistant that can also browse the web or use other apps could be tricked by something it reads into passing information on — so connect assistants you trust, and leave Transactions off when totals are enough.
Plug it in. Unplug any time.
Tally for AI is in the Tally app on iPhone: Profile → Security & Privacy → Connected AI.
